NERC Compliance Specialist- Operations & Planning (O&P)

Queensbury, New York

Brookfield Renewable North America is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) Compliance Specialist- Operations & Planning (O&P) to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a compliance professional who is passionate about electric reliability, regulatory excellence, and supporting the safe and reliable operation of critical energy infrastructure.

The Compliance Specialist will bridge operations with regulatory governance, ensuring systems meet all federal and regional reliability frameworks. In this role, you will work closely with the Senior Compliance Manager to support and enhance Brookfield Renewable's reliability compliance program, ensuring adherence to applicable FERC, NERC, and Regional Entity reliability standards. You will play a key role in developing, implementing, and improving compliance processes, controls, and monitoring activities that support operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Asset Management, to maintain a strong culture of compliance and continuous improvement across the organization.

This position is based in Queensbury, New York.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the administration and execution of NERC Operations and Planning (O&P) compliance programs.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Coordinate compliance monitoring, self-certifications, evidence collection, periodic data submittal, respond to RFIs, and audit preparedness activities.
  • Review regulatory requirements and assess operational impacts to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Support internal assessments, compliance investigations, gap analyses, and corrective action plans.
  • Maintain compliance documentation and records in accordance with applicable standards and regulatory expectations.
  • Work with Regions to organize and maintain reliability compliance evidence necessary for reporting and audit activities and create plans for audit preparation and mitigation activities.
  • Maintain procedure library for NERC Registered Entities, and electronic document management.
  • Manage subscriptions and data input for self-certifications with regional reliability organization compliance portals.
  • Develop and update procedures, track, prepare, and implement changes to NERC Standards.
  • Provide training and guidance to operations staff as needed.
  • Recommend changes and modifications to programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable reliability standards.
  • Maintain and implement annual Reliability Compliance schedule and ensure that Compliance deadlines are met.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to promote compliance awareness and best practices.
  • Participate in regional reliability organization workshops and seminars.
  • Participate in compliance committees and working groups.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Technology, Environmental Science, Energy Management, or a related discipline; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of NERC compliance standards, electrical generation, and transmission processes.
  • Experience working with NERC Reliability Standards, electric utility operations, transmission, generation, balancing authorities, or other utility compliance functions.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance principles, risk management, and internal controls.
  • Experience supporting reliability compliance program, audits, self-certifications, compliance monitoring, or evidence management activities.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and management levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and compliance management tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail, capable of working in a high-pressure environment.
  • Team player with ability to work independently and apply individual judgment as required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $85,000 - $115,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
  • Bonus: Eligible for a 10% Variable Bonus program.
