Job Summary:

The Department of Neurosurgery currently seeks a Neurosurgeon at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor Rank in the Clinical Practice Track to join the Denver Veterans Administration Medical Center (DVAMC). This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position which will include teaching, clinical, possible research, and service responsibilities. The position will work closely with other neurosurgeons to build and cover the Denver Veterans Administration Medical Center (DVAMC) on the Anschutz Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical care and consult management

o Provide timely assessments and documentation in outpatient and inpatient settings.

o Review neurosurgery consults to determine the most appropriate initial provider or management plan and confirm that the existing work-up is adequate.

o Provide therapeutic interventions appropriate to the physician's expertise and the facility's capabilities.

o Maintain clinical privileges, including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation, and management.

  • Collaboration and program support

o Collaborate with providers in other medical and surgical services, including making appropriate referrals.

o Participate in facility programs that improve patient care, including patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.

o Adjust work schedules and assignments on short notice to meet changing workloads and deadlines.

  • Academic, administrative, and teaching responsibilities

o Perform administrative and academic duties related to the specialty.

o Provide supervision, teaching, and technical training to residents based on their training level and experience.

o Report administratively and clinically to the Chief of Surgery.

  • Compliance and standards

o Ensure practice is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, and VA policies and procedures.

o Follow Neurosurgery guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation requirements, mandatory continuing education, and HIPAA policies.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado at the Denver Veterans Administration Medical Center, on the Colorado University Anschutz campus.

Assistant Professor:

  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurosurgery
  • Graduate of an American Board of Neurological Surgery residency program
  • Maintains or is eligible for Colorado State Medical License

Associate Professor:

  • MD or DO
  • Board certified in Neurosurgery
  • Graduate of an American Board of Neurological Surgery residency program
  • Maintains or is eligible for Colorado State Medical License
  • Experience in general neurosurgery practice with at least 7 years of experience

Professor:

  • MD or DO
  • Board certified in Neurosurgery
  • Graduate of an American Board of Neurological Surgery residency program
  • Maintains or is eligible for Colorado State Medical License
  • Experience in general neurosurgery practice with at least 14 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical experience and/or fellowship training in spine

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other physicians and staff at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability, with capacity for program building.
  • Comfort with general cranial procedures and cranial surgical decision making, including but not limited to trauma, some tumors, VP shunts, Chiari malformations, etc.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor: $500,000

Associate Professor-$550,000

Professor-$600,000

The above salary represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate possible compensation at the time of posting. This does not include call pay, which provides additional compensation. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
