Job Description:
We are searching for the best talent for North America Tax & Unclaimed Property Compliance Specialist
Location: Bogotá, Colombia
Function: Finance / Payments / Tax Compliance
Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced North America Tax & Unclaimed Property Compliance Specialist to support information reporting, withholding, and unclaimed property (escheatment) compliance across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This role combines complex regulatory execution with strong cross-functional collaboration. The specialist will ensure accurate filings, maintain audit-ready documentation, and support continuous process improvements in partnership with U.S.-based stakeholders.
You will be responsible for:
Unclaimed Property (Escheatment) - North America
Review and identify dormant, abandoned, or unclaimed property in accordance with state-specific escheatment laws and dormancy periods
Perform due diligence outreach to customers, vendors, employees, or account holders prior to statutory deadlines
Prepare, validate, and file annual unclaimed property reports with applicable U.S. states and jurisdictions
Monitor regulatory and legislative changes impacting unclaimed property reporting requirements
Reconcile outstanding balances and research discrepancies related to escheatment transactions
Partner with Accounting, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Legal, Compliance, and Customer Service teams
Maintain accurate audit trails, supporting schedules, and documentation
Support state audits, voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs), and compliance reviews
Analyze data using Excel and financial systems to identify escheatable property
Identify opportunities to improve processes and reduce unclaimed property exposure
Support escheatment tools, system enhancements, and internal controls
Tax Reporting & Withholding Compliance - U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada
Prepare, validate, and support filing of U.S. information returns (1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, 1099-K, 1042, 1042-S)
Manage W-8 and W-9 documentation and vendor tax validation
Support compliance with IRS withholding and backup withholding requirements
Perform TIN matching and resolve B Notices and filing rejections
Prepare and file Puerto Rico Hacienda information returns and withholding reports
Support compliance with Puerto Rico withholding certificates and Hacienda portal filings
Support preparation of Canadian information returns including T4A and NR4 slips
Perform reconciliations between tax filings, ERP systems, and general ledger accounts
Assist with tax audits, internal controls testing, and regulatory inquiries
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Business, or related field
- 3-5+ years of experience in tax reporting, unclaimed property, payments, or financial compliance
- Working knowledge of U.S. unclaimed property laws and IRS information reporting requirements
- Familiarity with Puerto Rico and Canadian information reporting
- Advanced Excel skills and experience analyzing large data sets
- Experience with SAP (S/4HANA, Lynx), Workday, Tab Services, or unclaimed property tools preferred
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and organizational skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a global, matrixed environment
