Nuclear Safety Basis Analyst – Hazard Analysis & Safety Documentation (DOE/LANL)

About the Role

COMPA Industries is seeking an experienced Nuclear Safety Basis Analyst to support the safe operation of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In this role, your expertise in hazard identification, accident analysis, and safety basis documentation will directly support mission success, regulatory compliance, and the protection of personnel, the public, and the environment.

This is a senior-level analytical role for a seasoned safety professional who can operate independently, develop complex safety basis documentation, and navigate the rigorous regulatory frameworks governing DOE nuclear facilities.

Mandatory Requirements - Must Meet All to Be Considered

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science - candidates without a qualifying degree will not be considered
  • Minimum 8 years of direct safety analysis experience - candidates without this will not be considered
  • Demonstrated experience performing nuclear and/or non-nuclear hazard analyses and developing safety basis documentation - candidates without this specific background will not be considered

What You'll Do

  • Perform nuclear and non-nuclear risk and hazard analyses
  • Conduct hazard identification and hazard analysis activities across assigned facilities
  • Perform facility hazard categorization
  • Conduct accident analysis and select appropriate controls
  • Develop and maintain safety basis documentation including:
    • Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) determinations
    • Documented Safety Analysis (DSA)
    • Technical Safety Requirements (TSR)
    • Safety Assessment Documents
    • Facility Safety Plans
    • Facility Safety Analysis documents
  • Ensure compliance with applicable nuclear safety standards and DOE regulatory requirements throughout all project phases

What You Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science
  • 8+ years of related experience performing safety analysis work
  • Demonstrated experience performing nuclear and/or non-nuclear hazard and risk analyses
  • Experience developing safety basis documentation including accident analysis and control selection
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance

Preferred:

  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety regulatory frameworks and standards (e.g., 10 CFR 830, DOE O 420.1)
  • Experience supporting complex nuclear or high-hazard facility operations

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science required
  • Equivalent combination of education and directly relevant safety analysis experience may be considered
