Under supervision, the Research Student Intern performs specific quality assurance and other database related projects required to manage data/data entry.

Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Education:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university science or health-related undergraduate (minimum 1 academic year completed), graduate, or professional program in good academic standing- OR- has earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with acceptance and intended matriculation into a graduate or professional science or health-related program in the upcoming academic year. Individuals in a gap year are eligible to apply.

  • Experience: None.

Education and/or Experience Preferred:

  • Education:

  • Completed at least two or more years in a science or health-related undergraduate program- OR- enrolled in a graduate or professional science or health-related program.

  • Has completed college-level coursework in research and/or statistics.

  • Educational or experiential training in ethical principles of research and HIPAA.

  • Experience:

  • Work with children, families, and/or professionals in a community and/or in a health-related setting; experience with organizational and/or administrative skills; customer-service skills.

License and/or Certification Required:

  • None.

License and/or Certification Preferred:

  • CITI training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Understands basic principles of research.
  • Maintains data security and privacy.
  • Understands plagiarism and paraphrasing.

Skills:

  • Strong written, oral, and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Organization and time management.
  • APA or related citation-style experience (preferred).

Abilities:

  • Able to read and interpret numerical and written data.
  • Able to complete online training and coursework.
  • Completes assignments independently under supervision.
  • Reads, reviews, and interprets academic papers (ability to synthesize multiple sources preferred).

Literature Reviews: Conduct library searches, literature reviews, complete tables of evidence. Analyze and synthesize scientific literature into evidence summaries. 10%

Writing: Reviews and interprets author guidelines for peer-reviewed journals, provides outlines for research articles. Supports writing and gathering materials for abstracts, grant applications, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications. Submit abstracts and peer-reviewed manuscripts for publication under the supervision of the PI. 15%

Data Collection & Analyses: Create databases (e.g., Excel, Smartsheet), design intake surveys and data collection tools (e.g., REDCap). Collects data from a variety of sources and with a variety of techniques. Data management, data entry into various programs. Access EPIC and extract data from medical records into databases. Other data collection methods as directed by supervisor. Conducts basic statistical analyses with minimal support. 50%

Study-Related Duties: Reads and follows research protocols, enters applications and amendments into IRB manager, attends scientific review and IRB meetings as required, supports research protocol writing and revisions as requested. 5%

Presentations: Prepares professional posters and presentations. Presents research findings in meetings, at conferences, and in other venues as assigned. 5%

Supports INR: Assists with department activities that support the research projects and mission of the department including such things as copying, filing, and preparation of educational materials. Updates and supports maintenance, data entry, and writing of nursing research and EBP databases and reports. Prepares tables and figures. Attends department and lab meetings and other events as assigned. 10%

Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 5%
