Job Summary
Under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian and Clinical Nutrition Manager, the Nutrition Assistant supports the delivery of high-quality, personalized nutrition care to hospital patients. This patient-facing role ensures accurate meal service, adherence to diet orders, and excellent patient experience while maintaining departmental and hospital standards.Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with menu selections that align with prescribed diets and preferences
- Review and adjust meal selections based on physician, dietitian, and nursing instructions
- Ensure patients receive appropriate meals and notify care teams of any issues
- Support meal delivery, tray pass, retrieval, and tray line operations
- Conduct meal rounds, tray assessments, and track patient intake for calorie counts
- Order supplements and enteral nutrition products per department procedures
- Answer phones and assist patients, staff, and callers with requests
- Collaborate with clinical and production teams regarding patient needs and diet concerns
- Resolve patient concerns promptly to ensure a positive experience
- Maintain compliance with food service standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in department meetings, trainings, and continuous improvement efforts

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred (experience may substitute)
- Prior healthcare experience with patient interaction preferred
- Customer service experience, including phone support, preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills and ability to navigate hospital systems
- Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly
- Ability to push food carts and perform physical tasks as needed
- Demonstrates professionalism and commitment to service excellence (I CARE standards)
