Description:A Field Engineer works under the direction of the Operations Manager, Project Engineer and Superintendents to track quantities and cost, participate in work plan development, assist in the coordination between engineering and construction activities, and assist with contract management. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each task with precision and competence. As a field/office engineer you will be expected to be a job-site leader in health and safety. Functions will include contract administration, project planning and scheduling, and project reporting and will support the Project Management Department and coordinate the construction activities of the project. Employees shall have responsibility to support site administration and coordination of site operations, quality control, and cost control for field operations of a defined area or type of construction activities for the project under the direction of the Project Management Department.Job Responsibilities:Field Duties/Responsibilities:
- Inspect construction activities in accordance with established quality procedures and evaluate compliance with project plans, specifications, shop drawings and other project related documents.
- Enforce safety program and adhere to policies and procedures to include OSHA regulations.
- Provide technical assistance, e.g. interpretation of drawings, recommended construction methods and equipment, etc. as required.
- Audits installation team progress and provides suggestions for improvements.
- Develop and reviews plans, specifications, general notes and detailed project plans, designs, and specifications for heavy construction projects.
- Oversee construction activities on-site, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and project timelines.
- Verify correct installation of embeds anchor bolts etc. in concrete structure.
- Perform and document as-built conditions as needed for embeds, concrete, other structural components and existing conditions.
- Conduct technical analyses and calculations to support project design and construction.
- Implement and monitor quality control procedures to ensure high standards of construction.
- Manage project budgets, including cost estimation, tracking, and reporting.
- Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
- Continuously evaluates site progress, forecasts schedule changes and communicates to Construction Manager and planners.
- Designing infrastructure projects (roads, bridges, buildings, etc.)
- Ensure all on-site personnel comply with the project procedures.
- Exhibit organization skills to ensure loose ends are cleaned up and complete projects timely.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of time sheets, unit reporting, daily construction reports and labor projections.
- Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
- Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations. Assist other Engineers to gather and prepare data for submittal or transmittal to the customer, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use.
- Preparation of purchase orders and subcontracts, performing minor solicitations and purchasing as requested.
- Schedule maintenance and performing updates as directed by others.
- Project recordkeeping and correspondence functions including daily reports, photographs, etc.
- Enter data into the job cost system and participate in reviewing cost reports with job site management.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite.
- Reviewing and analyzing historical data related to the project. Create presentations using graphs, diagrams and other exhibits to illustrate status using Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.
- Observe all company and customer policies and safety requirements.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Zero (0) to two (2) years of experience on similar construction projects.
- Must be able to travel to and from locations. Traveling will be required 75% of the time.
- Valid Texas Driver’s license and Valid Insurance.
- Experience in highway or road construction is recommended.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
- Sitting for extended periods while working on designs, reports, and at a computer
- Standing for periods while inspecting construction sites or conducting surveys
- Walking to and from different areas of a construction site or office
- Lifting and carrying tools, materials, or equipment (e.g., survey equipment, samples)
- Reaching overhead or below shoulder level to access tools or materials
- Pushing or pulling heavy objects or equipment
- Climbing ladders, scaffolding, or stairs to inspect structures or access areas
- Stooping, crouching, or kneeling to inspect or work on areas
- Using hands and fingers to operate tools, handle paperwork, or use a computer
- Using hands and arms to lift, carry, and manipulate objects
- Using feet to operate equipment or navigate uneven terrain
- Occasionally, ascend/ descends a ladder to function/ process daily tasks.
- Face to Face contact with customers and travel to location is necessary.
- Position requires the operation of motor vehicle; driving to and from locations using bodily movement and climbing to and from vehicle.
- Required PPE to be worn on sites and readily available: Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Safety Vest, Steel Toe boots.
