Work Schedule

Services will primarily be performed Tuesday through Saturday between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with occasional work extending no later than 8:00 p.m. Services will not normally be performed on recognized federal holidays. Telework is not authorized.

158th Fighter Wing• Vermont Air National Guard Base• 108 NCO Drive• South Burlington, VT 05403

Period of Performance

One 12-month base period anticipated from September 23, 2026, through September 22, 2027, subject to contract award and final scheduling.

Position Summary

The 158th Fighter Wing Optimizing Human Weapon System program is seeking qualified professionals for the following positions:

  • Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Strength and Conditioning Specialist

The selected professionals will support fighter aircrew through a structured injury-prevention and physical-performance program focused on reducing neck and back discomfort associated with high-G flight operations. Services will include physical assessments, individualized training programs, pre- and post-flight support, strength and conditioning instruction, injury-risk reduction, lifestyle education, and performance reporting.

Requirements

  • Must meet all applicable State of Vermont licensing, certification, and professional-practice requirements.
  • Athletic Trainer candidates must possess a current professional athletic training certification and any license required to practice in Vermont.
  • Strength and Conditioning candidates must possess a recognized certification such as CSCS, CSCCa, NASM, ISSA, or an equivalent credential acceptable for the position.
  • Must hold current CPR/AED certification.
  • Must have experience conducting functional movement, strength, mobility, flexibility, muscular balance, and injury-risk assessments.
  • Must have experience developing and modifying individualized strength, conditioning, rehabilitation, or injury-prevention programs.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of musculoskeletal conditions affecting the neck, shoulders, spine, and lower back.
  • Must be capable of supporting clients before and after physically demanding flight activities.
  • Must understand safe exercise techniques, proper equipment use, and injury referral procedures.
  • Must be able to maintain accurate client records, survey results, progress notes, and program-performance data.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to the Vermont Air National Guard installation.
  • Must complete required background checks, security procedures, and Antiterrorism Awareness training.
  • Must maintain professional confidentiality and properly safeguard personal and health-related information.
  • Must provide a signed letter confirming availability and commitment to the position.

Duties

  • Conduct initial physical and functional movement assessments for assigned clients.
  • Develop and update individualized strength, conditioning, and injury-prevention plans.
  • Provide preflight warm-up and post-flight recovery support.
  • Deliver strength and conditioning instruction using safe and proper techniques.
  • Provide athletic training services within the authorized scope of practice.
  • Modify training plans to accommodate injuries, pain, and physical limitations.
  • Monitor client progress, participation, discomfort, and conditioning levels.
  • Refer clients for medical care when an injury or condition requires further evaluation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records and progress documentation.
  • Prepare required baseline, periodic, and final program reports.
  • Provide education on injury prevention, nutrition, sleep, stress management, and recovery.
  • Ensure safe equipment use and maintain a clean, professional training environment.
