Title Opinion Attorney

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Oil & Gas Title Opinion Attorney to join our Houston, Texas team. This position is ideal for an attorney with a strong background in oil and gas title examination who is comfortable handling complex mineral and real property matters across multiple U.S. producing basins.

The successful candidate will work closely with attorneys, landmen, clients, and other energy professionals to analyze title, identify ownership issues, and prepare comprehensive title opinions supporting oil and gas transactions and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and revise oil & gas title opinions, including original, supplemental, acquisition, division order, and other title opinions.

  • Conduct detailed examinations of mineral, leasehold, royalty, working interest, and surface title.

  • Analyze deeds, leases, assignments, conveyances, probate records, liens, easements, reservations, and other title documents.

  • Identify title defects, ownership issues, and potential risks and recommend appropriate curative requirements.

  • Research and interpret applicable Texas oil & gas, mineral, real property, and title law.

  • Support acquisitions, divestitures, financings, development projects, and other energy transactions.

  • Collaborate with landmen, attorneys, title examiners, operators, and clients.

  • Manage multiple title matters simultaneously while meeting project deadlines.

  • Communicate title conclusions and legal recommendations clearly and effectively.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

  • 2+ years of oil & gas title experience preferred.

  • Texas Bar admission preferred.

  • Strong understanding of mineral ownership, oil & gas leases, title examination, and oil & gas law.

  • Demonstrated experience preparing or reviewing oil & gas title opinions.

  • Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze complex chains of title.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys, landmen, and clients.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.

Basin Experience

Experience working in any U.S. producing basin is welcome, including:

  • Permian Basin

  • Delaware Basin

  • Midland Basin

  • Eagle Ford

  • Haynesville

  • Barnett

  • Bakken

  • Anadarko

  • DJ Basin

  • Other U.S. oil & gas producing regions

Compensation

Salary: DOE (Depending on Experience)

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualifications, and level of oil & gas title expertise.
