POSITION SUMMARY
The Food Enthusiast Instructor has the overall responsibilities of planning, preparing and delivering cooking demonstrations to a high degree of professionalism presenting to both public and private parties in all venues on the college campus.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, prepares and delivers public and private demonstrations at the CIA, San Antonio campus.
- Wears the face of hospitality to demonstrate and exemplify the CIA Standards of Excellence.
- Orders food and supplies for demonstrations as needed with a focus on preventing waste.
- Procures and "practices" as possible, recipes in advance of presenting to the public to ascertain the recipes integrity and timeliness of delivery.
- Works to follow the method as set out in the distributed recipes, to eliminate the possibility of confusing attendees.
- Demonstrates culinary techniques that are adopted as professional in standard and most importantly in accordance with CIA professional faculty culinary demonstrations.
- Provides written copies of culinary demonstrations and recipes to attendees.
- Accountable for food cost relating to demonstrations and stays within guidelines set forth by supervisor.
- Maintains a clean and professional appearance in the demo space for self, the station and the demonstration.
- Actively engages in professional development to further culinary knowledge and demonstration techniques.
- Returns all internal and external phone calls, emails and communications within a timely manner.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Associate Degree or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years professional culinary experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiar with global cuisines and the associated foods and preparation.
- Familiar with volume foodservice, fine dining, multi-unit and menu research and development.
- Familiar with the wine and beverage industry.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to engage and entertain CIA customers.
- Outstanding culinary skills.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills required.
- Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.
- Detail oriented and thorough.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be available to work nights and weekends based upon business needs.
- Regular work requires a great deal of sitting, standing, lifting, bending and stretching.
- Must be able to stand for eight (8) hours.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures hot and cold for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds.
