On-Call Specialist Sisters of Mercy of the Americas
Position SummaryUnder the supervision of the Life Care Coordinator (LCC), the On-Call Specialist (OCS) provides urgent and emergent support to Sisters requiring care at local hospitals or urgent care centers. This role includes responding to after-hours calls, accompanying Sisters, assisting with communication with medical staff, and providing transportation when needed using a company vehicle.
On-Call Schedule
Monday–Friday: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
Saturday–Sunday: 6:00 AM – 6:00 AM
Holidays: 6:00 AM – 6:00 AM
The OCS must respond to calls promptly and arrive within 45 minutes. During weekdays, the OCS is expected to respond to text notifications within 30 minutes and be available between 4:00 PM–6:00 PM for handoff communication.
Assignments are typically scheduled one week at a time.
Key Responsibilities
Respond to urgent and emergent care needs of Sisters as scheduled
Accompany Sisters to emergency or urgent care facilities
Assist with communication and documentation from healthcare providers
Coordinate closely with the Life Care Coordinator and Mercy Circle staff
Provide transportation and physical assistance as needed
Complete required documentation within 24 hours
Maintain safety, calm judgment, and professionalism in emergency situations
QualificationsRequired:
High school diploma
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Caregiving experience (formal or informal)
Experience communicating with healthcare providers
Ability to clearly document healthcare information
Must live within a 45-minute drive of Mercy Circle
Preferred:
Experience with medical or transportation emergencies
Familiarity with healthcare systems
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly
Ability to assist with wheelchairs and mobility equipment
Clear vision, hearing, and effective verbal communication
