Position Highlights

Spencer Hospital is a rural hospital located in northwest Iowa employing over 500+ employees. Positions at Spencer Hospital are not affiliated with Avera; however, we collaborate to provide services to the communities we serve. Employment offers, if accepted, are exclusively with Spencer Hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • The Nurse Navigator serves as a consistent care coordinator, ensuring timely access and seamless coordination of services throughout the continuum of oncology care.
  • The Navigator will meet with patients and families to provide emotional support and guidance following the diagnosis of cancer through end state disease if necessary.
  • Provide medical information; education; and share knowledge regarding internal and external support services and resources.
  • Responsible for facilitating: rapid scheduling, coordination follow-up care and tracking patients to ensure completion of recommended treatment plan.
  • Identify and assist patients and families in eliminating potential barriers to care by identifying and referring to appropriate resources.
  • The Navigator will be an integral part of and professional member of the Interdisciplinary Team promoting optimal patient.
  • Serves as the tumor board coordinator; a responsibility that requires extensive preparation, facilitation during sessions and submission of detailed documentation to the accreditation panel following each meeting.

Job Requirements:

  • Active IA RN license
  • Minimum 1 year oncology experience required
  • Oncology Nurse Certification preferred
  • Excellent communication, organization and time management
  • Must be a caring communicator, flexible, able to multitask and be comfortable with technological systems

Job Schedule:

  • 60 hours per pay period (full-time benefit eligible)
  • 7:30a-5p; Mon-Fri
  • On-call every 6-8 weeks with nursing rotation
  • The schedule may fluctuate based upon needs of the department
