Job Description
Edgewood Surgical Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team in The Operating Room. The circulating nurse is responsible for maintaining a safe and sterile environment throughout the surgical procedure and providing care to patients before, during, and after surgery. It’s a multi-faceted role and requires critical thinking, excellent communication, and clinical judgement.We have four operating rooms and one special procedure room. We primarily perform the following surgeries: orthopedic surgery, cataract surgery, vitrectomies, and pain procedures.OR RN job summary:
- Prepare the operating room with necessary equipment and supplies
- Ensure all surgical instruments are sterilized and functioning
- Monitor the surgical team to maintain a sterile environment
- Assist in positioning the patient safely before the surgery
- Verify patient information and surgical site before the procedure begins
- Document all aspects of the surgical procedure in the patient’s chart
- Coordinate with anesthesia providers to ensure patient safety
- Manage the flow of the operating room and anticipate the surgical team’s needs
- Handle specimens taken during surgery and ensure proper labeling and documentation
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families before and after surgery
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and Pediatric Advanced Life support (PALS) certification
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Pennsylvania
- Experience in operating room or surgical nursing
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Commitment to continuing education and professional development
- Strong understanding of sterile techniques and surgical procedures
- Familiarity with regional and general anesthesia techniques
- Adherence to hospital policies and procedures
