SUMMARY

Provides strategic and hands-on leadership for manufacturing operations within a cGMP-regulated dietary supplement environment. Responsible for safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people outcomes across all manufacturing activities. Drives operational excellence through compliance, continuous improvement, data-driven decision making, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities include management of all activities of the manufacturing department including facilities, equipment, budgets, safety, scheduling, training, operating procedures, and full compliance with FDA cGMPs (21 CFR Part 111), DSHEA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory and certification standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure the quality of all manufactured product. Collaborate with QA, QC, Technical Manufacturing Team (TMT) and PD to determine product specifications and critical quality attributes
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, including payroll, PTO and labor planning, and cost controls; analyze variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee the manufacturing department schedules to produce all products on time and work closely with Inventory, Purchasing and QA/QC to coordinate all supporting activities to meet the due dates and service levels.
  • Manage and report capacity and utilization levels of all manufacturing and facility equipment using KPI dashboards and manufacturing performance metrics
  • Implement departmental Standard Operating Procedures, Manufacturing Records and Validation documents.
  • Provide manufacturing input to formulation and process development through knowledge of excipients, process capabilities, scale-up, and commercialization best practices
  • Collaborate with Product Development, Sales, and Marketing to develop products solutions to meet customer and business needs.
  • Monitor and communicate team performance (KPI) through monthly team meetings and tiered daily/weekly management routines.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions and performance improvement plans based on data, trend analysis, and root cause investigations.
  • Support inventory management objectives to reduce excess inventory and cycle time while maintaining material traceability and compliance.
  • Ensure that all equipment and the manufacturing facility meet FDA and OSHA requirements and that all operators are properly trained and qualified per internal training requirements.
  • Identify, lead, and sustain continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen) to reduce operating costs, improve throughput, and enhance quality and safety performance.
  • Manages departmental personnel through hiring, training, developing and coaching. Handles disciplinary action as needed.
  • Reviews and approves all Deviations and Investigation Reports ensuring timely, compliant closure and effective CAPAs.
  • Approve all departmental purchase orders and capital expenditure requests.
  • Research and recommend purchase of new manufacturing equipment to support business needs and efficiency improvements.
  • Ensures all preventive maintenance (PM) programs for equipment are current, executed, and continuously improved.
  • Sets specific stretch goals and meets or exceeds them.
  • Ensure housekeeping, sanitation, and 5S programs are effectively implemented and sustained to support cGMP and audit readiness.
  • Ensure supervisors effectively plan labor, maintain accurate records, and execute daily operations in compliance with procedures and schedules.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages and motivates staff in the Manufacturing department. Responsible for the productivity, efficiency, overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; and 4+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience in dietary supplements, food, pharmaceutical, or other cGMP-regulated industries; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma and APICS certifications/experience are desired.

  • Strong working knowledge of FDA cGMP requirements (21 CFR Part 111), audits, inspections, and quality systems.
  • Proven ability to lead change, influence cross-functional partners, and drive results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Must have the ability to organize and express thoughts clearly and concisely, both in speaking and writing.
