Job Description
This is skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation of moderately complex and heavy equipment, which also requires the performance of manual labor.
Work involves the operation of vehicles and equipment used in construction and maintenance projects, and to transport materials and personnel to and from work sites. Work also involves the use of power tools in preparing areas for construction. Work requires not only the safe and skilled operation of equipment but also maintains equipment. Work is performed under close supervision with verbal and written instructions issued regularly.
Essential Job Functions
- Operates dump truck and trailer, backhoe, bush hog, bobcat, water pump truck, paving equipment, pipe saws, boring tools and any other related heavy equipment as required to assist in a variety of construction and maintenance projects – such as concrete, laying pipe and asphalt paving.
- Operates chain saw to clear rights-of-way and removes trash and limbs from shrubs.
- Operates pressure washer.
- Maintains road quality by repairing with gravel and asphalt.
- Performs routine maintenance on all equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Assists in building sidewalks, laying pipe and stormwater catch basins, and other construction projects as required.
- Assist in directing and supervising Community Service details and records.
- Assists in the maintenance of equipment.
- Leads crew in absence of Foreman.
- Performs heavy manual labor as necessary.
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a standard high school diploma, GED or equivalent from a regionally or nationally accredited school. Will accept a combination of education and experience.
Completion of a DOT flaggers course, or obtain within six (6) months from date of hire.
Thorough experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment.
Considerable experience in the operation of heavy equipment in close proximity to roadways and utilities.
Experience in the installation of sidewalks and storm sewer piping.
Considerable experience in asphalt maintenance.
Possession of a Class A valid Georgia commercial driver's license (CDL).
