Job Description
Position Summary: The Ophthalmic Assistant provides ophthalmic support services by assisting eye care providers with patient intake, diagnostic testing, procedures, and patient education in an outpatient setting. This role performs routine ophthalmic testing, including visual acuity and intraocular pressure measurements, prepares patients and examination rooms, and documents clinical findings accurately in the electronic medical record. Working closely with providers and clinic team members, the Ophthalmic Assistant helps maintain efficient clinic flow, clear communication, and a positive patient experience. This position functions within a collaborative, supportive care environment and supports quality, safety, and service standards for ophthalmic care in alignment with Trinity Health expectations. Key Responsibilities: Prepare patients for ophthalmology exams by obtaining histories, checking vision, and performing basic diagnostic tests as trained. Assist providers during eye exams and procedures by setting up equipment, administering eye drops, and supporting patient positioning. Document clinical information accurately in the electronic record, including test results and patient education. Maintain exam rooms and equipment, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and readiness for use. Educate patients about eye medications, followup visits, and diagnostic testing instructions. Participate in ongoing training and quality activities to support safe, highquality ophthalmic care.
