Additional Information:
Ophthalmic Technician provides assessment information to the physician who is treating the patient. The Ophthalmic Technician participates in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care to a select group of patients. Technicians are involved in basic and advanced ophthalmic procedures that aid the physician in the diagnosis of acute and chronic conditions of the eye.
Required Education:
High school diploma or GED or equivalent
Recommended Education:
Associate's Degree in a related field of study.
Required Work Experience:
High School Diploma/GED, or 2 years of experience in lieu of a diploma/GED.

Description
Attains thorough and accurate patient and family history.
Performs physical eye exam, measure the eyes optical system, visual fields, basic ocular motility and other vision and diagnostic tests.
Takes ocular and systemic history.
Accurately records visual acuity.
Collects ophthalmic measurements and other diagnostic information.
Plans and organizes patient care tasks to ensure optimal time and resource utilization.
Assists physicians in performing ophthalmic procedures.
Prepares and administers eye medications.
Provides eye care and contact lens information to patient.
Performs other duties as assigned.
