Optician VA Medical Center (Federal Contract) Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center | Clarksburg, WV
Position Overview
Provide onsite clinical optician services to eligible veteran beneficiaries at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. Dispense, fit, and repair prescription eyeglasses in accordance with VA medical prescriptions and Joint Commission standards.Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Dispensing- Fill medically necessary eyeglass prescriptions as written by privileged VA eye care providers
- Measure pupillary distances (PD), segment heights, and base curves
- Assist veterans with frame selection based on lifestyle needs and preferences
- Verify eyeglass prescription specifications from VA Optometry/Ophthalmology clinics
- Perform final frame fitting and adjustments
- Replace missing screws and nose pads
- Repair broken frames
- Perform frame adjustments and alignment
- Maintain adequate stock of spare parts for minor repairs
- Document all patient encounters in VA CPRS/EHR system
- Complete documentation per Joint Commission and CMS standards
- Administer VA-approved patient satisfaction surveys
- Submit monthly quality and expenditure reports
- Maintain and calibrate contractor-furnished equipment (lensometer, lens clock, frame warmer, pupilometer, UV light meter, ANSI standards chart, adjustment tools)
- Ensure proper cleaning and infection control of all equipment Required Qualifications
Requirement Details Certification American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certification mandatory License Active, unrestricted state Optician license (if required by state); WV does not require licensure Experience Proficiency in optical dispensing, fitting, and repairs Language Fluent English (speak, read, write, understand)
