Job Description

About the Company

Orr Partners LLC, a premier development and project management firm, is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of large-scale, heavy industrial infrastructure projects in Quonset, RI. Orr Partners has been exclusively entrusted by General Dynamics Electric Boat (GDEB) to oversee the construction of the vital infrastructure required to build the U.S. Navy’s next generation of nuclear submarines. At the Quonset Point facility, you will be an integral part of the team delivering specialized industrial environments—including massive structural assembly halls and specialized manufacturing bays—necessary for the Virginia-class and Columbia-class programs. This is a high-impact opportunity for a rising professional to gain world-class experience in a "zero-failure," complex engineering landscape.

About the Role

As an on-site representative for Orr Partners, you will work directly under the Senior Project Manager to coordinate project activities, track progress, and ensure the successful administrative and technical execution of large-scale industrial projects.

Responsibilities

  • Project Coordination: Support the Senior PM in managing multi-disciplinary teams (GCs, trades, and engineers) to ensure daily adherence to safety and quality standards.

  • Reporting & Communication: Assist with preparing project status reports, meeting minutes, and presentations for GDEB leadership and stakeholders.

  • Financial Support: Assist in tracking project budgets, processing invoices, and maintaining detailed records of cost-tracking and contingencies.

  • Procurement Assistance: Support the development of RFPs/RFQs and help manage the documentation for high-value contracts and specialized equipment.

  • Schedule Tracking: Monitor project schedules and milestones to identify potential delays and implement mitigation strategies.

  • Field Observation: Conduct regular site walkthroughs to document progress, verify work-in-place, and ensure compliance with technical standards.

  • Document Control: Maintain organized, impeccable project records (RFI logs, submittals, and change orders) to ensure 100% transparency and audit readiness.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, or Structural), Construction Management, or a related technical field.

  • Experience: 2–5 years of experience in construction project management or field engineering. Experience in industrial or maritime environments is a plus.

  • Technical Aptitude: Strong ability to read blueprints, understand technical specifications, and utilize project management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera, or MS Project).

  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-security, and active industrial shipyard environment.

  • Locational Commitment: Ability to work full-time on-location in Quonset, RI.

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to organize complex information into clear, concise updates.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong problem-solving mindset and a willingness to learn complex industrial systems.

Preferred Skills

  • Certifications: CAPM® or OSHA 10/30-Hour (Construction) is highly preferred.

  • Sector Familiarity: Basic understanding of NAVFAC or USACE standards or experience with defense contractors.

  • Logistics: Knowledge of shipyard logistics or heavy equipment coordination.

Pay Range and Compensation Package

Compensation details will be discussed during the interview process. Salaries are commensurate with skills and experience.
