Orthopedic Hand Surgeon
Position Summary
The Orthopedic Hand Surgeon provides comprehensive evaluation, surgical, and non-surgical treatment of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and upper extremity. This role includes management of traumatic injuries, degenerative conditions, congenital abnormalities, and work-related or repetitive-use disorders. The surgeon works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered orthopedic care.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and treat disorders of the hand, wrist, and upper extremity
- Perform elective and emergent surgical procedures within the scope of hand surgery
- Manage traumatic injuries, including fractures, tendon, nerve, and soft tissue injuries
- Provide non-operative care such as injections, splinting, and rehabilitation planning
- Interpret diagnostic imaging and test results
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Participate in call coverage for hand and upper-extremity trauma as required
- Collaborate with therapists, advanced practice providers, and referring physicians
- Educate patients and families regarding conditions, treatment options, and recovery
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical education activities
Practice Setting
- Hospital and outpatient clinic settings
- Elective and urgent surgical care environments
- May include trauma or emergency department consult coverage
Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited Orthopedic Surgery residency
- Fellowship training in Hand Surgery (orthopedic or plastic surgery–based)
- Board certified or board eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
- Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the practicing state
- DEA registration or eligibility
