Job Description

Orthopedic Surgeon – Sports Medicine

Position Summary

The Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon provides comprehensive surgical and non-surgical care for patients with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions related to sports, physical activity, and overuse. This role focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of athletic and activity-related injuries, with an emphasis on restoring function, mobility, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and treat sports-related and musculoskeletal injuries
  • Perform orthopedic surgical procedures within the scope of sports medicine training
  • Manage injuries of the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, and ankle
  • Provide non-operative care including injections, bracing, rehabilitation planning, and physical therapy coordination
  • Diagnose acute injuries and manage chronic degenerative or overuse conditions
  • Interpret diagnostic imaging and test results
  • Develop individualized treatment and recovery plans
  • Participate in call coverage and orthopedic consults as required
  • Collaborate with physical therapists, athletic trainers, and other healthcare professionals
  • Educate patients on injury prevention, treatment options, and recovery timelines
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Practice Setting

  • Outpatient clinic and surgical settings
  • Hospital-based and ambulatory surgical environments
  • May include elective and urgent orthopedic care

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited Orthopedic Surgery residency
  • Fellowship training in Sports Medicine
  • Board certified or board eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the practicing state
  • DEA registration or eligibility
