Responsibilities
- Assist licensed physical therapists in developing and executing individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
- Provide direct patient care by implementing therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques—including trigger point therapy—and modalities to reduce pain and improve function.
- Support patients across various environments such as inpatient units, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, home health settings, and acute care hospitals.
- Educate patients and their families on physiotherapy techniques, injury prevention, and discharge instructions to ensure continuity of care.
- Monitor patient progress regularly, document responses to treatments, and communicate updates to the supervising therapist.
- Participate in discharge planning by assessing patient needs post-treatment and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams for seamless transitions.
- Maintain accurate records of treatments provided, patient responses, and progress notes in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Stay current with advancements in physiotherapy practices, including specialized techniques like trigger point therapy and pediatric or geriatric care strategies.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology essential for accurate assessment and treatment planning.
- Proven experience working in outpatient clinics, inpatient units, skilled nursing facilities, or home health environments with a focus on orthopedics, geriatrics, pediatrics, or acute care.
- Skilled in applying physiotherapy techniques such as trigger point therapy and other manual therapies to relieve pain and restore mobility.
- Ability to develop comprehensive care plans that address individual patient goals and needs across diverse populations.
- Excellent communication skills for educating patients and collaborating effectively with healthcare teams.
- Familiarity with discharge planning processes to ensure smooth transitions from treatment settings to home or community-based care.
- Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to physical therapy practice.
- Experience working with patients requiring specialized care such as orthopedics or geriatrics is highly desirable.
