Paralegal - Housing StabilityAlbuquerqueNew Mexico Legal Aid (NMLA) provides civil legal services to low-income New Mexicans for a variety of legal issues including domestic violence/family law, consumer protection, housing, and benefits. NMLA has locations throughout the state including Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Gallup, Roswell, Silver City, Las Vegas, Taos, and Santa Ana.New Mexico Legal Aid seeks a compassionate, organized, and collaborative Paralegal to join our Housing Stability Practice Group. This position plays an important role in helping New Mexicans remain safely housed by supporting attorneys in eviction prevention, subsidized housing, habitability, fair housing, and other housing stability matters.Working under the direction of the Housing Stability Managing Attorney, the Paralegal provides litigation support, communicates directly with clients, coordinates legal clinics and outreach efforts, prepares legal documents, and helps connect clients with community resources. Although based in Albuquerque, this position supports statewide housing initiatives and may require travel throughout New Mexico. Primary ResponsibilitiesSupport attorneys in litigation involving housing stability matters, including eviction prevention, habitability, reasonable accommodations, subsidized housing, Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) issues, and related housing matters.Prepare pleadings, correspondence, legal forms, and other case documents.Conduct client intake and interviews and maintain accurate case files.Communicate with clients regarding case status, appointments, and requested documentation.Assist attorneys with case preparation, hearings, and court proceedings.Coordinate referrals to community agencies and housing resources.Plan and support statewide legal clinics, outreach events, and educational presentations.Collaborate with staff across multiple NMLA offices.Maintain confidentiality and comply with all ethical and legal requirements.Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:Must meet the New Mexico Supreme Court qualifications for paralegals (Rule 20-115), which may be satisfied through an approved paralegal program, qualifying education, national certification, law school graduation, or qualifying substantive law-related experience.Demonstrated knowledge of legal procedures and legal document preparation.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software.Ability to collaborate effectively with staff across multiple offices.Ability to travel regularly throughout New Mexico.Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.  The position is part of a collective bargaining agreement.
