The Paralegal provides support to the legal department, which includes reviewing and organizing documents and contracts, reviewing contracts, and researching applicable laws. This position also touches on areas including, but not limited to, general legal affairs and court matters, risk management, policies and procedures, regulatory matters, and corporate governance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. General Legal Support

  • Review and track subpoenas and court orders served on agency staff.
  • Act as the agency contact for external attorneys requesting staff testimony or medical records.
  • Assist in preparing employees for court or deposition testimony.
  • Oversee and manage the agency's legal request ticketing system.
  • Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and legal codes as requested by the General Counsel.
  • Review proposed filings with federal and state agencies.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing corporate documents and proposed filings with federal and state agencies.
  • Assist with reviewing board bylaws, incorporation/charitable status, Secretary of state filings, and real estate tax exemptions.
  • Assist with a wide variety of projects requiring legal expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

II. Contract Management

  • Maintain and oversee the agency's Legal Contract Database.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing various legal documents, contracts, agreements, and corporate documents ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal standards.
  • Ensure contract follow-up and tracking for all agency contracts.
  • Maintain all agency legal forms and templates.
  • Assist with legal disputes relating to contractual obligations or grant compliance.

III. Policies and Procedures

  • Revise various agency policies and procedures to achieve legal compliance.
  • Maintain and ensure legal policies and procedures are current and updated when appropriate.

All CCBHC required training courses must be completed within in 30 days of hire.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred

Licenses/Certifications: Completion of a Legal Assistant or Paralegal program accredited by the American Bar Association that requires a minimum of 60 semester hours preferred and/or a Paralegal Certification through a NCCA accredited and ABA recognized program.

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • One to two (1-2) years of experience in healthcare law, or transactional work, healthcare preferred, or equivalent based on experience.
  • Superior writing skills.
  • Strong analytical acumen demonstrated by following a throughfall and analytical approach to planning, problem solving and decision-making.
  • Excellent communication abilities and people skills.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a sense of urgency and accuracy.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and display strong judgment skills.
  • Well organized, strong ability to multi-task, and excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality for both clients and staff.
  • Ability to always act in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and build rapport quickly, develop trust, and sustain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the public and/or external entities and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for cultivating a strong culture at F&CS.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, and other software including but not limited to Excel, Word, Power Point, and data bases.
  • Must possess a driver's license and use personal automobile to travel to locations other than primary office.
