Job Description

The Paralegal will be an integral member of the Antitrust, Competition, and Economic Regulation (ACER) practice area, providing high‑level support to attorneys across all stages of antitrust investigations and litigation, from initial information gathering and discovery through hearings, trial, and final case closure.

The role also involves substantial responsibility for supporting Hart‑Scott‑Rodino (HSR) premerger notification filings with the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice, including drafting client information requests and memoranda, preparing and completing HSR forms, managing supporting documentation, and coordinating filings. Working closely with attorneys on complex matters, the Paralegal will assist with correspondence, discovery, administrative proceedings, briefs, settlements, and trial preparation, and will play a key role in the retrieval, review, management, and production of documents in connection with significant matters.

The role's primary responsibilities include:

  • Oversee and manage document retrieval, review, organization, and production.

  • Maintain case pleadings, correspondence, discovery, and research.

  • Cite-check, proofread, and edit legal documents.

  • Serve as a subject-matter expect in the preparation of HSR filings.

  • Train and coach junior paralegals as needed to support team initiatives.

  • Write concise memoranda to summarize research results.

  • Maintain a database of client advisories.

  • Maintain document, transcript, and work product databases.

  • Assist with trial site preparation and attend trials.

  • Conduct legal research and organize and prepare exhibit lists and/or privilege logs.

  • Coordinate work with outside document/litigation vendors, including adherence to strict deadlines.

  • Maintain confidentiality of client information.

  • Meet the minimum requirement of 1,650 annual billable hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly express ideas and original thoughts.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a demanding, fast-paced environment with or without direct supervision, and coordinate and prioritize multiple projects.

  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to conduct high-level analysis and synthesis.

  • Strong sound judgment in decision-making, demonstrating high integrity, and utmost respect for confidentiality.

  • Superb proficiency in Microsoft Suite (including Excel) and other computer skills.

  • Flexibility to work additional hours as needed and a willingness to travel.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Four (4) to six (6) years of relevant professional experience.

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Paralegal certificate is desirable.

HOURS

Core hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (including a lunch hour) with the willingness to work additional hours as needed.

In Washington, D.C., the expected base salary range for this role is $93,500 to $109,500 per year.

In New York, the expected base salary range for this role is $99,500 to $117,000 per year.

This range reflects a good-faith estimate of pay at the time of posting; the actual compensation offered may vary depending on factors such as the candidate's qualifications. This position is eligible for additional forms of compensation, which may include annual discretionary bonuses. Employees in this role are also eligible for benefits offered by the firm, subject to applicable plan terms and conditions, which currently include medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 401(k) retirement plan; and paid time off.
