Job Description

Job Summary

As a Paralegal for our in-house law department, you will support attorneys by preparing legal pleadings, organizing case files, coordinating filings across multiple county courts, and ensuring smooth case progression for Delinquent Real Estate Tax collection.  The core qualities of the role are accuracy, organization, and dependable follow‑through.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Draft Legal Pleadings: Prepare complaints, motions, affidavits, Praecipes, service documents, and judgment packages for delinquent real estate tax matters. 
  • File Court Documents: Submit pleadings through electronic filing systems across various Pennsylvania counties; track acceptance, rejections, and required corrections. 
  • Organize Case Files: Maintain digital and physical case files, ensuring all documents, correspondence, and court notices are properly indexed and accessible. 
  • Support Attorneys: Assist with hearing preparation, assemble exhibits, draft correspondence, and managing deadlines. 
  • Monitor Case Progress: Track service status, docket updates, hearing dates, and judgment entries; notify attorneys of critical developments. 
  • Coordinate With Counties: Communicate with county courts, tax claim bureaus, sheriffs, and third‑parties regarding filings, service, and scheduling. 
  • Data Entry & Record Accuracy: Update internal systems with case milestones, payment activity, and property information. 
  • Client & Property Research: Conduct basic title checks, verify ownership, and gather property‑related information needed for pleadings. 

Job Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Certifications

  • Associate degree
  • Paralegal certificate
  • 1-3 years of professional work experience in a law firm or in-house legal department
  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania courts (preferred but not required). 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document management systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to manage multiple court deadlines across different counties.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume legal environment. 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with real estate, tax collection, or civil litigation. 
  • Comfort with county specific electronic filing systems. 
  • Strong organizational habits and ability to maintain meticulous records.
