Paralegal 

Annual Salary:

  • Level Two Q29B $54,140.09 + Full State Employee Benefits

The position does require occasional travel by both public and private conveyance and the ability to drive.Positions in this job family will provide legal administrative support and technical assistance by performing legal work to include conducting legal research, preparing and filing legal documents, preparing correspondence and other client communications, responding to Open Records requests, assisting with trial/hearing preparation, and attending court proceedings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Level Two: Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of an associate degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field and three (3) years of paralegal or legal assistant experience; or a Certified Paralegal Certification approved by a national association or American Bar Association (ABA) approved program and four (4) years of experience as a paralegal or a legal assistant; or a high school diploma or equivalent education and five (5) years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides and performs administrative support functions such as establishing and maintaining filing systems for various legal documents and correspondence, inter-office and agency communications related to administrative decisions and/or policy, and other correspondence and documents as requested.
  • Performs or assists with case management to include case organization, planning, development, and other relevant aspects of case documentation including court exhibits.
  • Communicates, verbally and in written form, with clients, witnesses, and other interested persons as directed in areas of providing legal information, general information on services or process, scheduling depositions or other types of appointments, and other legal concerns.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of legal documents such as letters, memos, briefs, orders, pleadings, and other legal instruments.
  • Conducts and analyzes legal research using legal databases, including Westlaw, and reports the findings in verbal or written form.
  • Files legal documents in state, federal, or administrative court, including electronic filing, ensuring all filing and response deadlines are met by establishing and maintaining tracking system.
  • Attends, participates, or assists in court proceedings.
  • Performs or assists in performing specialized duties to include docketing, responding to open records requests, analyzing and reporting investigative/audit/review findings, or other similar duties and functions.
  • Performs administrative support tasks and duties for attorneys and legal staff such as editing documents, responding to discovery requests, coordinate with others to gather information for administrative actions and court filings. Supervises lower-level staff.
