Paralegal / Legal Assistant (Cybersecurity Compliance)Agency: NYS Department of Financial Services (DFS)Employment Type: Temporary Personnel (Statewide)Position OverviewThe Department of Financial Services is seeking a highly qualified Paralegal/Legal Assistant to support the implementation and enforcement of Cybersecurity Regulations. The incumbent will handle sensitive correspondence from regulated financial entities, ensuring they meet New York State’s rigorous data privacy and security standards. This role requires a professional with a strong grasp of legal terminology and the ability to interpret complex government regulations.Key Responsibilities
  • Regulatory Correspondence: Review and formulate responses to correspondence from banks, insurance companies, and other regulated entities regarding DFS Cybersecurity Regulation compliance.
  • Communication Management: Act as a primary point of contact for phone inquiries and voicemails; address compliance-related matters under the instruction of Department attorneys.
  • Legal Research & Analysis: Read, understand, and interpret state laws, legal documents, and regulatory materials to ensure accurate guidance is provided.
  • Complex Clerical Support: Utilize Microsoft Office Suite to manage legal forms, track compliance data, and maintain organized legal records.
  • Project Support: Assist with other duties as assigned to support the Department’s legal and regulatory initiatives.
Minimum Candidate Qualifications (Mandatory)
  • Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree AND a Paralegal Certificate.
  • Experience: * At least two (2) years of experience providing complex clerical-level legal support to an attorney.
    • At least two (2) years of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • At least one (1) year of continuous full-time work experience with a single employer.
  • Eligibility: Must provide proof of eligibility to work in New York State.
  • Legal Knowledge: Mastery of basic legal processes, terminology, forms, and research techniques.
Preferred Experience
  • Direct experience in Cybersecurity or Data Privacy.
  • Experience reviewing and responding to formal correspondence from government-regulated businesses or individuals.
