Job Description
DUTIES: Performs a variety of general duties related to the maintenance, upkeep, construction, installation, and repair of city parks, grounds, trails, golf course, and other city-owned landscaped areas. Also, assists in preparations for and clean-up after special events. Works under the direct supervision of the Parks Superintendent and general supervision of the Golf Pro/Parks & Cemetery Department Head.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Parks Maintenance Worker I: This job class is the entry and training level classification in the Parks Maintenance series and requires limited experience in landscape maintenance work. This job class performs unskilled gardening and maintenance tasks while learning semi-skilled and more skilled tasks. After three years of employment with Payson City and after receiving satisfactory or above performance evaluations during this time, employee shall be eligible to be promoted to the Parks Maintenance II classification. Parks Maintenance Worker I receives close supervision from the Parks Superintendent. Parks Maintenance Worker II: This job class functions at a journey level of classification and requires general knowledge related to gardening and grounds maintenance methods and techniques. This job class exercises responsibility for performing a wide variety of gardening and grounds maintenance duties at the semi-skilled and skilled level.
QUALIFICATIONS: Parks and Cemetery Maintenance Worker IEducation: Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Experience: One (1) year experience/training related to park maintenance, upkeep and beautification. Licenses/Certifications: A valid driver's license. Parks and Cemetery Maintenance Worker II IIn addition to the above standards: Experience: Minimum of three years' experience/training related to park maintenance, upkeep and beautification. Licenses/Certifications: Obtain pesticides license within 6 months of hire or promoted to Parks Maintenance Worker II. Class B CDL with 6 months of hire.
SALARY: $24.13 to $31.90 (Hiring Range) depending on experience and qualifications.
SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week. M-F, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Evenings, weekends and holidays may be required.
