We partner with local school districts to help students strengthen foundational literacy and mathematics skills, improve school engagement, and develop the social-emotional skills needed for long-term success.Our students are often students who need additional academic support. We work hands-on with students who are performing below grade level, including regular low performers, using targeted small-group and individualized instruction to help improve foundational skills, confidence and school performance.The PositionLearningWorks is seeking a Part-Time After-School Education Coordinator to lead our afterschool program at East End Community School in Portland.This position is a good fit for an experienced educator, retired teacher, school-based professional, education graduate, instructional specialist, or other youth-focused professional who wants to work directly with students in a consistent school-year setting.The Coordinator serves as the instructional and day-to-day site leader. This includes supporting staff, coordinating programming, communicating with families and school partners, and helping ensure that students receive engaging and effective academic support.ScheduleMonday, Tuesday and Thursday: 2:10–4:10 p.m.Wednesday: 1:10–4:10 p.m.20 hours per week

School-year position, September through MayAdditional paid time is provided for planning, staff meetings, professional development, family engagement and administrative responsibilities.What You'll DoLead the daily operation of the afterschool program.Create a structured, welcoming learning environment that promotes academic growth and positive behavior.Provide and support targeted academic instruction for elementary students.Work with students individually and in small groups, including students performing below grade level.Help monitor student academic progress and use student data to inform instruction.Support enrichment activities that build communication, problem-solving, initiative and perseverance.Supervise and support afterschool teaching staff.Coordinate daily programming, attendance, transportation and nutrition.Maintain strong relationships with students, families, school staff and community partners.Support student recruitment, enrollment and registration.Participate in team meetings, planning, professional development and continuous program improvement.What You'll BringWe are looking for someone who can build strong relationships with students while maintaining a structured and supportive learning environment.Ideal candidates will have:A relationship-centered approach to youth development.Strong communication, mentoring and conflict-resolution skills.Patience and the ability to remain calm and supportive when students are struggling.Experience working with elementary-aged students or in a school, youth-development or educational setting.Demonstrated leadership experience in education or youth programming.The ability to differentiate instruction and respond to varying academic and behavioral needs.Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently.Comfort using Google Workspace and other common educational technology.The ability to analyze student progress and adjust instruction based on student needs.QualificationsBachelor's degree in education or a related field required.Maine teaching certification preferred.Elementary teaching experience preferred.Experience with academically struggling or historically underserved student populations preferred.Transferable experience will be considered.
