Title: Community Engagement and Communications Assistant

Effective Date: July 30, 2026

Supervisor: Chief Communications Officer

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Principle duties and responsibilities

  • Assists with managing and updating the hospital's social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, and other emerging channels.
  • Creates, schedules, and monitors social media content in collaboration with the Chief Communications Officer.
  • Updates content on the hospital's website, ensuring information remains accurate, timely, and user-friendly.
  • Organizes volunteers and coordinates supplies, equipment, and promotional items necessary for community events, including parades, fairs, local theater partnerships, fundraisers, health fairs, and other outreach activities.
  • Attends community events on behalf of the organization and tracks volunteer participation and hours.
  • Designs marketing and communication materials for internal and external audiences, including flyers, brochures, posters, advertisements, presentations, handouts, signage, and digital graphics in collaboration with the Chief Communications Officer.
  • Assists with photography, videography, and content creation for marketing campaigns, community events, and hospital initiatives.
  • Works with hospital departments to develop informational and educational materials, including flyers, brochures, handouts, business cards, recruitment materials, and promotional items in collaboration with the Chief Communications Officer.
  • Supports Lexington Regional Health Center Charitable Fund and Legacy fundraising initiatives through advertising, sponsorship recruitment, donor recognition, communications, event planning, volunteer coordination, and other fundraising-related activities.
  • Serves on organizational committees and workgroups as assigned.
  • Ensures patients and visitors follow current infection control guidelines.
  • Responsible for ensuring the environment meets appropriate governing body standards.
  • Duties that could include blood exposure and risk to bloodborne pathogens (eg: lacerations, handling of blood-contaminated items, etc.).
  • Maintains patient and staff safety through the use of patient safety tools (Teamstepps, Just Culture, etc.).
  • Regular attendance at the assigned work location is required.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Requires basic ability to use computer and office equipment including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite as is typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience with social media platforms and content creation.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar graphic design software preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to represent Lexington Regional Health Center professionally within the community.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient, employee, donor, and organizational information.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and community events as needed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Successful completion of required knowledge and training of standard precaution protocols and when to apply during principle duties and responsibilities.

Working conditions

  • Works in a normal office work environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, etc.
  • Worker's days vary significantly depending on if there are events to attend to that day or not. If no events are scheduled, workers spends up to 6 hours/day completing various desk work, taking up to 75% of work time. The other 2 hours, or 25% of work time, is spent away from the desk, such as preparing for an event for marketing.
  • Worker will retrieve own supplies, such as transporting paper from materials management to marketing office approximately 350 feet. Worker may transport up to 3 reams of paper, weighing 15 pounds. Occasionally, more paper is required and worker will transport up to 9 reams, or 45 pounds in weight, to office the same 350 feet; if a push cart is used, it will require 20 horizontal pounds for transporting the 9 reams.
  • Event preparation requires transporting an approximately 30-pound plastic tote full of supplies up to 500 feet in distance. Worker may also use boxes to help transport extra equipment, weighing up to 12 pounds with same 500 feet in distance. Worker does have to stock shelves to include the supplies used at events; shelf height ranges from 33 inches to 71 inches high, up to 5 pounds in supply weight.
