Job Description

A patient ambassador enhances the patient experience by providing non-medical support, acting as a liaison, and offering comfort, often bridging gaps between patients, families, and staff, with roles ranging from bedside companionship (reading, bringing blankets) to administrative help (restocking supplies, answering calls) and patient feedback gathering, aiming to improve satisfaction and create a more positive, human-centered environment.  

Key Responsibilities:

  •     Patient Comfort & Companionship: Offering emotional support, reading materials, blankets, and generally making patients feel more at ease. 
  •     Information & Navigation: Helping patients and visitors find their way, answering general questions, and directing them to appropriate staff. 
  •     Communication Hub: Relaying patient needs and concerns to nurses and other medical staff, and sometimes mediating conflicts. 
  • Administrative Assistance: Restocking supplies, answering phone calls, and assisting nurses with non-clinical tasks. 
  •     Feedback & Experience Improvement: Conducting patient interviews, gathering feedback, and helping develop action plans to boost satisfaction. 
  •     Advocacy: In some programs, former patients become ambassadors to share their stories and support others with similar conditions. 

    What They Don't Do: 

  •     Patient ambassadors do not provide medical care, administer medication, or make diagnosis
    Respite Care

    Temporary relief for the client's caregiver by admission to an in-patient facility (nursing home or hospital) or community residential care facility 

    Personal Care

    Helps with activities such as bathing, dressing, preparing meals, housekeeping, and observing health signs.

    Attendant Care

    A client directed service to provide personal care assistance.

    Companion

    Services that provide short-term relief for caregivers and needed supervision of clients.
