Position Summary
Tulsa Clinic seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Benefits Coordinator to join our Front Desk team. This position supports an efficient patient billing and scheduling process by verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, obtaining prior authorizations, resolving insurance-related issues, and maintaining accurate patient information.
Essential Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate patient demographic and insurance information in the practice management and electronic medical record systems.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for upcoming clinic visits, procedures, and surgeries using carrier websites or direct communication with insurance companies.
- Review patient deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and other benefit information.
- Complete required benefits forms and upload them to the patients electronic medical record.
- Obtain prior authorizations for patient visits, in-office procedures, diagnostic services, and surgeries when required.
- Obtain necessary approvals for emergency services involving HMO and PPO plans, whether contracted or noncontracted.
- Enter insurance referrals and authorization information accurately and promptly.
- Follow up on pending authorizations, benefit questions, and accounts requiring additional research or evaluation.
- Communicate with front desk and scheduling staff regarding insurance verification issues, missing information, and scheduling errors.
- Work closely with reception staff to ensure patient insurance information is current and accurate.
- Assist team members with navigating insurance carrier websites and completing eligibility verification.
- Help resolve insurance and billing issues that may delay patient care or claim processing.
- Provide front office assistance as time and workload permit.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one year of relevant experience in medical billing, insurance verification, benefits coordination, or prior authorizations preferred.
- Experience working in a medical office or healthcare environment preferred.
- Proficiency with computers, practice management systems, electronic medical records, insurance carrier websites, and related software applications.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of general administrative and clerical procedures.
- Understanding of medical insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, and prior-authorization processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent follow-up and problem-solving abilities.
