Patient Safety Specialist Jobs in Aurora, CO

Sigma, Inc. is seeking an experienced Patient Safety Specialist to support Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora, CO. This position plays a critical role in advancing patient safety initiatives, reducing clinical risk, facilitating event reviews, and supporting a culture of safety throughout the organization.

The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in patient safety, risk management, quality improvement, root cause analysis, healthcare accreditation standards, and organizational performance improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Patient Safety leadership in managing and coordinating the patient safety program.
  • Facilitate patient safety improvement initiatives based on event reporting trends, safety reviews, and organizational priorities.
  • Conduct and facilitate cause analyses for serious safety events and other identified incidents.
  • Perform proactive risk assessments to identify and mitigate patient safety risks.
  • Serve as an internal consultant and resource for patient safety improvement activities.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating patient safety strategies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Accreditation, Risk Management, and Performance Improvement departments.
  • Support compliance with accreditation standards and continuous readiness initiatives.
  • Maintain knowledge of Joint Commission standards, National Patient Safety Goals, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with implementing risk reduction strategies and monitoring effectiveness.
  • Participate in organizational quality improvement and patient safety projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a Healthcare-Related Field required.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) License required for BSN candidates.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in:
    • Patient Safety
    • Risk Management
    • Human Factors
    • Error Prevention
    • Healthcare Quality Improvement
    • Organizational or Cultural Change Initiatives
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and collaboration abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Healthcare, Patient Safety, Quality, Nursing, or related field.
  • Experience conducting:
    • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
    • Event Investigation
    • Risk Assessments
    • Performance Improvement Projects
  • Knowledge of:
    • Joint Commission (JCAHO) Standards
    • National Patient Safety Goals
    • Accreditation Readiness
    • Healthcare Regulatory Requirements
