Payroll Accountant (Hybrid)

Schedule: Typically 2–3 days on-site and 2 days remote
Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-driven Payroll Accountant to support accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations across multiple entities. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working at the intersection of payroll, accounting, and benefits administration in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
You’ll partner closely with HR and Finance, support employees with payroll inquiries, contribute to audits, and help strengthen internal controls and payroll processes. This is a great opportunity for someone who values precision, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Process biweekly payroll accurately and on time using payroll systems
Validate, balance, and reconcile payroll data each cycle
Prepare payroll journal entries, accruals, and monthly payroll close reconciliations
Maintain payroll system updates for employee changes and generate reports
Prepare payroll-related management reports and analytics
Administer payroll-related benefits data (medical, dental, garnishments, 403(b), FSA, etc.)
Coordinate payroll onboarding and changes with Human Resources
Respond to employee payroll and timekeeping inquiries; resolve discrepancies
Maintain timekeeping systems, including time clocks and timesheet access
Support benefits administration, reconciliations, audits, and special projects
Compile documentation for annual audits, Department of Labor, workers’ comp, and retirement plan reviews
Distribute W-2s and other required payroll documentation
Assist with ad-hoc reporting and additional duties as needed
Required Qualifications
Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience
Minimum 3 years of recent payroll experience with UKG
Strong knowledge of payroll processing, compliance, and internal controls
Working knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations
High level of discretion handling confidential information
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to explain payroll variances clearly to employees and leadership
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently
High data-entry accuracy and strong attention to detail
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting benefits administration and payroll audits
Strong customer service mindset with excellent communication skills
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Proven ability to troubleshoot payroll and system issues
Experience collaborating with HR, Finance, and leadership teams
