Location: San Francisco, CA Pay: $38.00 – $42.56 per hour Schedule: Full-Time | Hybrid (3 days onsite after training)
Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to support accurate and compliant payroll operations across multiple entities. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working at the intersection of payroll, accounting, and benefits administration in a fast-paced environment.
The Payroll Accountant will collaborate closely with Human Resources and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy, maintain internal controls, support audits, and deliver payroll reporting and analytics that support organizational operations.
What You Will Be Doing
Process biweekly payroll using payroll software, ensuring accuracy and balancing of each payroll cycle
Prepare and update payroll-related management reports and analytics
Perform monthly payroll close activities, including reconciliations and accrual reviews
Maintain payroll system updates for employee changes and generate related reports
Prepare benefit contribution and billing reports (medical, dental, garnishments, etc.)
Maintain time management systems, including time clocks and employee timesheet access
Process new hire payroll documentation in collaboration with Human Resources
Serve as a resource for employees regarding time reporting and payroll inquiries
Investigate and resolve paycheck discrepancies
Manage 403(b), FSA, and other benefits data uploads with third-party administrators
Prepare General Ledger journal entries related to payroll, workers’ compensation, and accrued benefits
Support benefits administration and reconciliations with HR
Assist with annual audits and prepare documentation for external auditors
Provide payroll data for Department of Labor, workers’ compensation, and retirement plan audits
Distribute annual W-2 forms and required payroll documentation
Required Qualifications
Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Minimum 5 years of payroll experience working with major payroll systems such as ADP, UKG, or Oracle
Minimum 3 years of accounting and payroll experience
Strong knowledge of payroll administration and compliance
Experience with payroll systems and time management software (UKG / UltiPro or similar)
Knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting benefits administration and payroll-related audits
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Experience collaborating with HR, Finance, and leadership teams
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (40 hours per week)
Hybrid schedule begins after the second week of training
Typically 2–3 days onsite and 2–3 days remote
