Payroll & Benefits Specialist
Location: Geismar, Louisiana (onsite)
Schedule: Full-time
Reports to: Controller
Bengal is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to take ownership of accurate weekly payroll and day-to-day benefits administration for a growing, fast-paced operation. This is an onsite role for a highly organized professional who takes pride in precision, follows through consistently, and understands that payroll accuracy and employee support are critical to a company's success.

About the role
This position is responsible for weekly payroll processing, employee benefits administration, recordkeeping, reporting, and related compliance support. The person in this role will work in iSolved and partner with Crescent-HR, so experience working in payroll/HR systems, managing details carefully, and communicating effectively with employees and outside partners will be important to success.
What you'll do
- Process accurate, on-time weekly payroll, including employee changes, deductions, adjustments, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain employee payroll records, timecard information, benefits data, and related files with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Review payroll reports and supporting data to minimize errors and corrections before payroll is finalized.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, supplemental offerings, and 401(k)-related processes.
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment, life-event changes, questions, and claims-related support.
- Reconcile insurance invoices and payroll deductions, investigate discrepancies, and coordinate resolution with brokers, carriers, and service partners.
- Support COBRA administration, unemployment claims, required notices, and other payroll- and benefits-related compliance activities.
- Prepare routine and ad hoc reports, including new hire, absentee, and employee change reporting, as needed by leadership.
- Partner with finance and leadership on audits, renewals, and process improvements related to payroll and benefits administration.
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of experience in payroll, benefits administration, accounting support, HR/payroll, or a closely related role.
- Experience processing payroll in a payroll or HRIS platform; experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (formerly Great Plains), Employee Navigator, Fidelity, Ameriflex, iSolved and iHire is preferred.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills, with comfort working in reports, reconciliations, and detailed administrative workflows.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, discretion, and follow-through.
- Strong communication and service skills when working with employees, managers, and outside partners.
- Experience with benefits billing, payroll deductions, compliance support, or insurance-related administration is strongly preferred.
- Candidates with current or previous staff accounting, bookkeeping, or accounting support experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
