Position: Payroll Manager
Employment Type: Direct Hire / Full-Time
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee end-to-end payroll operations, ensure strict regulatory compliance, and optimize payroll systems and processes. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills to guide payroll staff, collaborate across HR and Finance, and ensure accurate, timely processing for a multi-faceted organization.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations & Systems: Oversee, implement, and maintain payroll processing workflows for accurate calculation of salaries, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
System & Interdepartmental Coordination: Partner with Human Resources, IT, and Compensation teams to manage timekeeping and HR/Payroll system configurations and updates.
Year-End & Tax Compliance: Manage year-end payroll processing, W-2 reconciliations, and formal submission to the SSA, including returned W-2 handling. Ensure overall compliance with local, state, and federal laws and tax regulations.
Financial Oversight & Audit: Reconcile manual deposits and bank issues with accounting staff. Facilitate internal and external audits, providing records and updating Financial Statement Risk and Control documentation.
Team Leadership & Development: Direct, schedule, and assign daily/weekly work for payroll staff. Provide cross-training, guidance, and constructive feedback to foster professional growth within the department.
Process Improvement & Reporting: Design custom and recurring reports to analyze pay rules, garnishments, and error-prevention processes. Evaluate workflows continuously to boost accuracy, efficiency, and system performance.
Budget Management: Formulate and manage the annual departmental budget.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in payroll or general finance.
Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial role.
Technical & Soft Skills:
Proficiency in enterprise HR/Payroll systems, timekeeping software, and financial reporting tools.
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration capabilities.
Excellent analytical skills and deep knowledge of federal/state payroll laws.
