Job Description

Job Summary:

Erlanger is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Pediatric Cardiology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join a collaborative inpatient cardiology team. This position provides the opportunity to care for pediatric patients with complex congenital and acquired heart conditions in a hospital-based setting while working closely with pediatric cardiologists and multidisciplinary care teams. The position follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with no weekend or overnight shifts, and is strictly inpatient-based. This role offers a balanced schedule while allowing providers to practice at a high level within a specialized pediatric subspecialty.

The Pediatric Cardiology NP or PA will provide comprehensive inpatient care to pediatric patients admitted for cardiac evaluation and management. The role includes performing detailed histories and physical examinations, assessing and monitoring cardiac status, developing and implementing evidence-based treatment plans, and coordinating care throughout the hospitalization. The provider will participate in daily rounds, respond to clinical changes, and collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary services to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities also include ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, imaging, and cardiac diagnostics, participating in care planning for pre- and post-procedural patients, and supporting patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up plans. Accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record and adherence to hospital policies, clinical guidelines, and quality standards are essential aspects of the role.

This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.

Education:

Required:

  • Master's of Science degree in Nursing (MSN).

Preferred:

  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner preferred but not required

Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum of 3 Years' experience in a clinical care setting.
  • Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills
  • Knowledge of organizational functions, policies and regulations
  • Knowledge of current trends and new developments
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of nursing, applicable to those areas requiring special education.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration

Required:

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Tennessee
  • Licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in the state of Tennessee
  • National certification in a specialty (such as ACNP, ANP, CCNS, FNP)
  • Certificate of fitness from the state of Tennessee (as required by specialty)
  • BLS completed prior to going to the unit/ department and maintained going forward

The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

Department Position Summary:

A nurse practitioner is employed by Erlanger Medical Center and is responsible for participating in the diagnosis, treatment and supportive care of patients.

The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her clinic. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. Interpretation of the appropriate information is needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the Nurse Practitioner's protocols.
