EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education Required:

Graduate from accredited school of medicine required

MD or DO Degree required

LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

  • Must possess current unrestricted license to practice in the State of CT and must be maintained thereafter
  • DEA with Controlled Substance required and must be maintained thereafter
  • Board certified/board eligible in both Pediatrics and Medical Genetics.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Thoroughly evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage each patient's condition appropriately.
  • Identifies relevant medical issues accurately and use appropriate procedures and testing.
  • Documenting assessment findings, treatment recommendations and plan for continuing care in the clinical record.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, other agency providers, clinical support staff, and administrative staff in meeting patient and family needs.
  • Provide health promotion, education and counseling for patient/families related to medication, diagnosis, health issues and coping strategies.
  • Participate in the management of inter-disciplinary team issues that affect clinical care of patients.
  • Utilize quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows.
  • Participate in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction.
  • Participate in pediatric clinical research into the genetic basis of inherited disorders and scholarly activities to promote the health and development of children.
  • Provide clinical teaching in genetics to a variety of learners, including medical students, residents and fellows.
  • Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in peer review and quality assurance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Academic appointments may be available with the University of Connecticut.
