Job Description

Pediatric Hospitalist (MD/DO)

Position Summary

The Pediatric Hospitalist provides comprehensive inpatient medical care to hospitalized infants, children, and adolescents. This role focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic pediatric conditions, coordination of multidisciplinary care, and support of safe, efficient transitions throughout hospitalization while delivering family-centered, evidence-based care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct inpatient medical care to pediatric patients, including newborns, children, and adolescents
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute illnesses, injuries, and chronic conditions requiring hospitalization
  • Manage admissions, daily rounding, and discharge planning
  • Coordinate care with pediatric subspecialists, nursing staff, case management, and ancillary services
  • Lead or participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care coordination activities
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans
  • Respond to changes in patient condition, including emergencies and rapid response events
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, care plans, and discharge instructions
  • Ensure safe transitions of care and appropriate outpatient follow-up
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and utilization initiatives
  • Supervise and educate residents, medical students, and advanced practice providers as applicable
  • Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited Pediatrics residency program
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Pediatrics
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
  • DEA registration or eligibility

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams

Work Environment

  • Pediatric inpatient units within an acute care hospital
  • Shift-based scheduling, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout hospital units
  • Manual dexterity for bedside assessments and procedures as required
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment

Requirements

Must maintain state certification and/or licensure.

Must be legally licensed to practice medicine in North Dakota and/or Minnesota, depending on the location of the practice to which they are assigned.
