Job Description

Director of Rehabilitation (DOR)

Location: Kennebunk, MaineCompensation: $33–$50 per hour, depending on discipline and experienceSchedule: 40 hours per week | Monday–FridayWeekend Rotation: RequiredPosition Type: Permanent

Overview

We are looking for an experienced Director of Rehabilitation (DOR) to join a progressive rehabilitation team in Kennebunk, Maine.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a rehabilitation professional who is passionate about clinical excellence and wants to work in a setting with a strong focus on post-acute brain injury and stroke rehabilitation.

The facility offers Skilled Nursing, Long-Term Care, and Outpatient Rehabilitation Services, along with adaptive sports equipment and Recreational Therapy services. As a DOR, you'll help lead a team delivering specialized care while collaborating closely with an interdisciplinary group of professionals dedicated to helping patients achieve meaningful functional outcomes.

The organization is also accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and provides opportunities for ongoing professional development, including paid training toward Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) certification.

This position is not open to new graduates. Candidates must have prior DOR or rehabilitation leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the rehabilitation department

  • Provide clinical leadership, mentorship, and support to therapy staff

  • Collaborate with nursing, physicians, administration, and other interdisciplinary professionals

  • Help ensure high-quality rehabilitation services for patients with neurological and other complex rehabilitation needs

  • Monitor clinical outcomes, productivity, documentation, and quality indicators

  • Participate in care planning and development of individualized treatment goals

  • Support staffing, scheduling, and efficient departmental operations

  • Promote compliance with regulatory requirements and facility standards

  • Assist with staff onboarding, training, education, and professional development

  • Encourage evidence-based clinical practices and continuous quality improvement

  • Help develop and strengthen rehabilitation programs and services

  • Serve as a resource for clinicians managing complex neurological and post-acute cases

  • Foster a culture centered on clinical excellence, teamwork, communication, and patient-centered care

Qualifications

  • Active Maine license in an eligible rehabilitation discipline

  • Previous Director of Rehabilitation or comparable rehabilitation leadership experience required

  • Candidates from the following disciplines will be considered:

    • Occupational Therapist (OT)

    • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

    • Physical Therapist (PT)

    • Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)

    • Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)

  • Strong clinical and leadership skills

  • Experience managing or supporting a rehabilitation department

  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities

  • Ability to mentor and motivate clinicians

  • Strong understanding of interdisciplinary care and rehabilitation operations

  • Skilled Nursing, post-acute, neurological, brain injury, or stroke rehabilitation experience is highly valued

New graduates will not be considered. DOR experience is required.
