Permanent Building Substitute Teacher (2026-27 SY)

POSITION SUMMARY: To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

• Serves as a substitute teacher on a daily basis wherever needed.
• Teaches district approved curriculum.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
• Implements the regular teacher's lesson plans and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
• Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
• Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
• Is available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day.
• Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals, parents and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
• Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
• Provides the regular teacher with thorough feedback on the day's activities and events through comprehensive notes, emails and other forms of communication.
• Informs the regular teacher of concerns with student behavior during the teacher's absence.
• Performs other assigned duties if/when a substitute teaching assignment is not required.
