Job Summary

The Personal Trust Officer is responsible for the administration of a portfolio of personal trust accounts, including revocable and irrevocable trusts, estates, and agency accounts. This role ensures accounts are managed in accordance with governing documents, fiduciary standards, and applicable laws and regulations.

Operating in a dynamic, client-focused environment, the Personal Trust Officer delivers high-quality service to clients, beneficiaries, and professional advisors while developing foundational expertise in trust administration, estate planning, and fiduciary risk management. The role partners closely with internal teams and escalates complex matters as appropriate.

The Personal Trust Officer builds and maintains client relationships, supports business development efforts, and contributes to the effective and compliant administration of trust accounts.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Administer a portfolio of personal trust, estate, and agency accounts with moderate complexity, ensuring compliance with governing documents, company policies, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Review trust and estate documents to understand account requirements and support proper administration.
  • Coordinate routine discretionary distributions in accordance with trust provisions and established guidelines; escalate complex scenarios.
  • Partner with senior officers as needed on more complex accounts, including estates, closely held assets, and sensitive family dynamics.
  • Assist in fulfilling fiduciary responsibilities for accounts involving guardianships or conservatorships under supervision, where applicable.
  • Monitor account activity to identify and mitigate risk, ensuring adherence to internal policies and fiduciary standards.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Investments, Operations, Compliance) to support account administration and client service needs.
  • Support the preparation and review of fiduciary income tax returns and related documentation for assigned accounts.
  • Assist in the collection, valuation, and distribution of trust and estate assets.
  • Conduct periodic account reviews to ensure proper administration, documentation, and alignment with governing instruments.
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients, beneficiaries, and professional advisors, responding to inquiries and providing timely updates.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance client relationships and support cross-functional referrals.
  • Maintain accurate and complete account records within trust accounting systems.
  • Stay informed on changes in trust regulations, fiduciary practices, and tax laws, applying knowledge to daily responsibilities.
  • Support team initiatives focused on process improvement, operational efficiency, and client experience.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in trust administration, estate settlement, financial services, or related field with client interaction.
  • Foundational knowledge of trust and estate administration, fiduciary principles, and basic tax concepts.
  • Ability to interpret trust documents and apply provisions to account administration.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in a regulated environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and client service skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and trust accounting systems.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information.

Preferred:

  • Completion of Juris Doctor Degree or attainment of CTFA
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in trust administration, estate settlement, financial services, or related field with client interaction. Exposure to fiduciary tax concepts and estate settlement processes.
  • Familiarity with fiduciary platforms such as SEI, FIS, or TrustDesk.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the trust and estate field.

Additional Information

  • This position allows a flexible work arrangement meaning you may work on-site and/or remotely from the Appleton, WI or Minneapolis, MN area.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $99,108.00 - $134,087.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
