This position is responsible for overseeing all pharmacy operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, driving departmental performance, and leading pharmacy teams in a hospital setting.This role provides 24/7 operational oversight and accountability for pharmacy services while supporting organizational goals related to patient care, quality, employee engagement, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate brings strong hospital pharmacy leadership experience, financial oversight capabilities, and a passion for developing high-performing teams.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Operations
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for all pharmacy department functions
- Direct daily workflow and staffing operations to ensure safe and efficient service delivery
- Maintain 24-hour accountability for pharmacy department performance and operations
- Establish, implement, and enforce department policies, procedures, standards, and objectives
- Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to improve pharmacy services and patient outcomes
- Oversee department scheduling, staffing plans, and resource allocation
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets
- Monitor productivity and cost-per-unit metrics to ensure alignment with budget expectations
- Develop and implement action plans to address budget variances
- Manage supply chain needs and inventory requirements
- Review operational performance and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Recruit, onboard, train, mentor, evaluate, and supervise pharmacy staff
- Conduct stay interviews, performance evaluations, and development discussions
- Monitor retention trends and implement engagement initiatives
- Promote a positive workplace culture focused on communication, accountability, and teamwork
- Maintain department competencies, job descriptions, and training programs
- Approve payroll and timekeeping activities
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards including Joint Commission requirements
- Monitor departmental quality indicators and performance metrics
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Support organizational quality goals and patient experience initiatives
- Implement corrective action plans when opportunities for improvement are identified
- Partner closely with physicians, nursing leadership, and clinical teams regarding pharmacy services
- Support pharmaceutical care initiatives across patient populations ranging from newborn through geriatric care
- Serve as a resource for pharmacy-related operational and clinical issues
- Maintain effective physician and interdisciplinary relationships
- Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy
- Active Arizona Pharmacist license required OR ability to obtain Arizona licensure quickly
- Minimum 5 years of hospital Pharmacist experience
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations, regulations, and compliance standards
- Experience managing budgets, staffing, and operational performance
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with computer systems and healthcare technology platforms
- Prior experience leading pharmacy operations within acute care environments
- Experience managing departmental KPIs and quality initiatives
- Strong background in staff development and process improvement
