Pharmacy Technician (Night Shift)
Payrate: $22-$25 an hr Location: Onsite in Morristown NJ 07960 Schedule: 8:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 7 Nights On / 7 Nights Off (Thursday start) Shift Length: 10.5 hours
- This position is a contract assignment with potential to hire on permanently based upon attendance, performance, and business needs
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our Morristown Pharmacy team. This night shift role supports hospital pharmacy operations, ensuring accurate medication preparation, distribution, inventory control, and sterile compounding in a fast-paced clinical environment. The ideal candidate has prior hospital pharmacy experience and oncology/infusion exposure.
Key Responsibilities
1. Order Filling & Medication Preparation
- Accurately fill medication orders for pharmacist verification and dispensing
- Prepare extemporaneous and sterile preparations
- Restock medication carts, trays, kits, and bulk medications
- Perform cart/bin exchanges and manage discontinued/unused medications
- Document and sign all required paperwork
- Identify and note patient profile issues for pharmacist review
2. Distribution & Returns
- Respond professionally to requests via phone, fax, window, and computer
- Deliver medications via pneumatic tube, courier, or hand-delivery
- Collect, sort, and process medication returns from nursing units
3. Sterile Compounding
- Prepare IV medications using aseptic technique
- Batch and document IV preparations accurately
- Monitor IV inventory levels and reduce medication waste
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of:
- IV equipment
- Sterile technique
- Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)
- Hazardous drug handling and safety precautions
4. Automated Dispensing Machines (ADM)
- Refill and maintain automated dispensing cabinets
- Resolve discrepancies and equipment issues
- Remove expired medications and document destruction
- Complete daily reconciliations and monthly inspections
5. Repackaging & Inventory Control
- Repackage and barcode oral medications
- Monitor expiration dates and remove outdated products
- Retrieve recalled medications
- Maintain organized medication and supply storage
6. Teamwork & Performance Improvement
- Support departmental and system-wide initiatives
- Participate in performance improvement and cost-saving efforts
- Maintain professionalism with patients and healthcare staff
- Collaborate with pharmacists to maintain efficient workflow
