Job Description

Anchorage, Alaska

Five certified pharmacy technicians for a 24/7 military hospital pharmacy in Anchorage, with outpatient and inpatient rotations.

The Community

Anchorage puts a real city of nearly 300,000 people between the Chugach Mountains and Cook Inlet. You get a downtown with restaurants, breweries and a performing arts center, plus 300 miles of paved and groomed trails that run right through town. Moose in the neighborhood are routine. Alpine skiing at Alyeska is under an hour away, and salmon fishing, glaciers and Denali-country weekends are a drive away. Summers bring nearly 20 hours of daylight. Alaska has no state income tax and no statewide sales tax, which stretches every paycheck further.

The Facility

The 673d Medical Group at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson is a 65-bed military and VA joint-venture hospital and the primary referral center for Alaska, serving about 159,000 beneficiaries. It runs primary and specialty care, an emergency department, an ICU, a behavioral health unit, labor and delivery, and 24/7 inpatient care across 17 medical and surgical specialties. Pharmacy services operate from the main hospital pharmacy and a satellite pharmacy on the MHS GENESIS electronic health record.

5955 Zeamer Avenue, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK 99506

Responsibilities

  • Fill new and refill outpatient prescriptions and enter orders into the pharmacy system
  • Support patient, prescriber and refill requests, monitor for drug interactions and report adverse reactions
  • Inspect drug storage, pull expired stock, and produce error and workload reports
  • Order, stock and restock supplies, maintain inventory and track out-of-stock items
  • Work alongside pharmacists on a 24/7 hospital pharmacy team

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification (CPhT)
  • Graduate of an ASHP-accredited or formal pharmacy technician program (technical, hospital or retail), or U.S. military pharmacy technician training
  • At least one year of pharmacy technician experience after training
  • Former military pharmacy technicians encouraged to apply
  • U.S. citizenship

Schedule

Full time, on site, W-2. The pharmacy supports 24/7 inpatient operations. Rotations use 8-, 10- or 12-hour shifts, which can include nights, weekends and a 7 days on / 7 days off block, never more than 80 hours per two-week pay period. Outpatient shifts run Monday to Friday during clinic hours. Schedules are published a month in advance. Anticipated start spring 2027.
