Job Description

Pharmacy Technician

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician supports the safe and efficient operation of a healthcare pharmacy by assisting with medication preparation, inventory management, prescription processing, and patient service activities under the direction and supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician must demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and compliance with applicable pharmacy regulations and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists with the preparation and dispensing of medications in accordance with established procedures and applicable regulations.

  • Receive, process, and accurately enter prescription and medication information into pharmacy systems.

  • Prepare medication orders for pharmacist verification.

  • Assist with medication packaging, labeling, counting, and distribution.

  • Verify patient information and prescription details to support accurate medication processing.

  • Maintain accurate pharmacy records and documentation.

  • Assist with maintaining medication and supply inventories.

  • Monitor inventory levels, identify shortages or expired products, and assist with inventory replenishment.

  • Properly store medications and pharmacy supplies according to established requirements.

  • Support medication safety and quality-control procedures.

  • Communicate professionally with patients, pharmacists, providers, and other healthcare team members.

  • Respond to patient questions within the scope of the Pharmacy Technician role and refer clinical questions to the pharmacist when appropriate.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and protect sensitive health information.

  • Follow infection-control, workplace safety, and pharmacy security procedures.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and functional pharmacy environment.

  • Follow all applicable federal, state, and organizational pharmacy policies and procedures.

  • Perform other pharmacy-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Completion of an accredited or recognized Pharmacy Technician training program.

Licensure & Certification

  • Current Pharmacy Technician license/registration with the applicable state Board of Pharmacy.

  • Preferred: Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification.

Experience

  • Approximately 3 years of experience working as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.

  • Experience in a healthcare, outpatient, retail, or clinical pharmacy environment is beneficial.

Language & Communication Requirements

  • Bilingual communication skills required in at least one of the following combinations:

    • English/Spanish

    • English/Arabic

    • English/Tagalog

    • English/Vietnamese

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients and healthcare team members.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Knowledge of pharmacy terminology, medication names, and common pharmacy procedures.

  • Ability to accurately enter and maintain medication and patient information.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a healthcare team.

  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn pharmacy management systems.

  • Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a pharmacy or healthcare setting.

  • Requires frequent interaction with patients, pharmacists, providers, and other healthcare professionals.

  • May require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and performing repetitive tasks.

  • Must follow applicable pharmacy, workplace safety, infection-control, and confidentiality requirements.

Assignment Details

  • Job Type: Temporary

  • Assignment Length: Approximately 3 months

  • Schedule: Monday Friday, approximately 8:00 AM 5:00 PM

  • Location: Outpatient healthcare/pharmacy setting in California
