Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician II works under the direct supervision of staff pharmacists, according to standard procedures: prepares medications pursuant to physician orders, performs conducts sterile and non-sterile compounding in the main pharmacy, repackages bulk medication in unit dose form, restocks automatic dispensing machines, answers phone calls and trouble shoots questions within the scope of their practice, participates in inventory management activities dispenses and transports medications, conducts regular unit inspections, maintains appropriate records and documentations, routinely participates in departmental educational initiatives (Ex: Tech Bingo at least twice a year. > 90% Cornerstone compliance; presents at least one clinical pearl per year), demonstrates expertise in chemotherapy/hazardous compounding and/or is capable of self-managing workflow on a specialized shift (Chemotherapy, Satellite, Main Nights, RIVA), scores 80% or higher on Annual Safety and Math Competencies.

Pay Range

Minimum $26.73 Midpoint $35.41 Maximum $44.10

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

Required: Minimum two (2) years of experience inpatient/acute pharmacy.

Preferred: Three (3) years of experience. Previous experience in chemotherapeutic preparation and familiarity with USP 800 regulations; previous experience in a satellite pharmacy environment.

Education

Required: High School Diploma or GED. Graduated from an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program and a minimum of 240 hours of externship, OR two years of inpatient hospital experience with a state license.

Preferred: Associate degree in Pharmacy Technology.

Training

Required: Graduated from anASHP accredited program OR non ASHP accredited program + 240 hours of externship, OR two (2) years of inpatient/outpatient hospital experience with a state license.

Specialized Skills

Required: Knowledge of pharmaceutical compounding (sterile and non-sterile); proficiency in pharmaceutical math calculations; clear verbal and written communication skills. Advance proficiency in speed and accuracy in basic IV compounding; knowledge of closed system transfer devices; ability to prioritize tasks independently under stressful situations.

Preferred: Familiarity with Automated Dispensing Cabinet use and other IV workflow automation; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (word, excel, etc.).

Licensure

Required: California Pharmacy Technician license; Pharmacy Technician Board Certification (CPhT).

Preferred: Certified Compounding Sterile Preparation (CSPT).

Work Environments - Functional Demand:

Medium - High energy level Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Push/pull +/- 150-200 lbs. (Patients on bed, stretcher) Lateral transfer 150-200 lbs. (ie. Patient) .
