Since its inception, Hebrew University’s scientists, scholars, and researchers have been committed to solving the most pressing global challenges of our time.Position Objective:Philanthropy Associate, for the Mid-Atlantic and Greater Philadelphia Regional Offices, will support fundraising efforts, engagement, events, and communications for AFHU’s donor and alumni community. The Philanthropy Associate will play an essential role in expanding and deepening our donor and alumni experiences in the Philadelphia Region - covering Pennsylvania, South Jersey, and Delaware; and the Mid-Atlantic Region – covering Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia to strengthen the connection to the Hebrew University.Guided by Executive Directors, and directly reporting to the Executive Director, Greater Philadelphia Region, the Philanthropy Associate will have the unique opportunity to engage directly with donors and volunteer leaders, building authentic relationships and creating inspiring experiences that bring our mission to life. This role offers a powerful pathway for professional growth—cultivating the skills, insight, and confidence needed to develop into a successful, mission-driven frontline fundraiser.Essential Functions:The Philanthropy Associate (PA) will have direct contact with donors and volunteer leadership with guidance from Executive Directors. The PA will have opportunities to learn and understand the role of a frontline fundraiser. Alumni and Donor Fundraising and Engagement
- Partner with Executive Directors to support moves management by coordinating timely donor and prospect touchpoints, including outreach via phone, email, and other engagement channels
- Identify alumni who have not previously met with AFHU staff and surface high-potential prospects for Executive Directors to connect with
- Review direct mail donor lists on a monthly basis to recommend strategic outreach opportunities for Executive Directors
- Collaborate with the Marketing team, under the guidance of Executive Directors, to develop donor communications and supporting materials.
- Support Executive Directors by creating first drafts of letters of inquiries, proposals and acknowledgements
- Participate in meetings, capture key notes, and assist with tracking and executing all follow-up actions
- Serve as a point of contact for donor inquiries, providing guidance on making online gifts, submitting checks, setting up tribute gifts, and other donor needs as directed by the Executive Director
- Partner with the Development Coordinator to ensure smooth execution of all events
- Collaborate with Executive Directors to support event logistics and elevate the overall quality of donor events
- Lead coordination of regional alumni gatherings, including but not limited to securing hosts, speakers, marketing and communications, and final event execution
- Identify, qualify and cultivate Mid-Atlantic and Philadelphia special events and reception guests to become future contributors to AFHU
- Serve as the liaison to the Marketing Department for the submission of marketing and communications requests
- Assist in the development and production of event publications, including tribute journals and advertisements.
- Coordinate and manage all pre- and post-event communications to ensure seamless donor experience
- Staff events as needed, serving as a welcoming presence and providing support with check-in, guest engagement, and on-site troubleshooting.
- Participate in planning meetings and actively track tasks, deadlines, and follow-up actions to drive successful event execution
- Bachelor’s degree required
- At least 3-5 years of fundraising, customer relations, or event management experience
- Ability to travel between Delaware Valley, Pittsburgh, and Mid-Atlantic regions
- Experience in a non-profit environment and familiarity with Jewish communal, Israel based, or higher education institutions preferred
- Strong customer service orientation and the ability to build meaningful relationships
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with strong organizational skills
- Self-motivated and independent worker who values collaboration with regional and national teammates
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences
- Experience with CRM platforms; familiarity with Blackbaud NXT preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, Canva, Monday.com, and Adobe tools
